Learn to Row
April and September are Learn to Row months for our rangatahi.
Mid October is Learn to Row for our Adults which costs $100 which will be counted towards your membership fee if you continue afterwards
Our rangitahi Learn to Row sessions are offered at no charge. These are geared towards those with either no experience or those who need a refresher course. If you are 13 years old or older, all you need is a desire to learn and have fun.
Rowing is super option for those wanting an all body exercise. It's a smooth, rhythmic motion that is impact free. Rowing exercises all major muscle groups and provides aerobic conditioning, as well as strength conditioning.
You should always consult with a doctor before starting any new exercise program. If you have any reservations before beginning a learn to row class, be sure to discuss them with our coach. They are there to help and to make sure everyone enjoys the sport in a safe and friendly environment.
Wear close-fitting gym-type clothing that you don't mind getting wet. High visibility colours are great. Try to avoid pockets in the front as your oar handle can get caught. Our boats have rowing shoes in them to use but bring your own socks. For wearing on land before and after you row, bring lightweight shoes that can be easily removed. Jandals or slides are good options. If you have an indoor session scheduled bring some sneakers.
If you've loved the Learn to Row experience, then you can join our club and continue training. Regattas have a novice category for learners too, and a new category for Masters with less than 5 years of experience, so you will be able to get the hang of rowing with people who are of a similar experience level to you.
