Rowing in Colour
Rowing has a diversity problem. Economically and ethnically, it can and should be more inclusive. Taupō Rowing Club understands. We would like to bring rowing to more members of our community.
One of the most powerful ways we have always done this is by keeping our fees low. With our free learn to row, people of all ages, abilities, and circumstances can figure out if rowing is for them. If you want to join the club, we have one of the cheapest fee structures in New Zealand.
With the addition of our new coastal quad (special thanks to Sport New Zealand for their grant to fund this) we also want to open up rowing to afternoon rowing for busy parents and those who are not thrilled with the prospect of getting up early. The lake gets rougher as the day goes on. Our new coastal quad, wai taratara (Rough Water), will make it easier to row when the weather is not ideal and in the afternoons.
Our lake is beautiful. Our lake is sacred. It's our people though that make our Taupō community so special. Let's introduce more to rowing. Bring your friends. Contact us if you have ideas on how to expand. Would love to hear from you.
